All patients undergo the same comprehensive assessment process.

This consists of a guided reporting of your history and symptoms and clinical examination of vestibular function and balance.

We use state of the art equipment to aid our clinical reasoning and to ensure effective individualised treatment is offered.

Inner ear balance controls our gaze (and postural) stability. Problems are reflected in abnormal eye movements and in static and dynamic postural control.

Infra-Red video goggles project an image of your eye onto a computer screen (so a large eye can be observed with and without a light on) and can be recorded to provide evidence of the problem.

Postural stability, both static and dynamic, are measured. A force platform measures static postural sway under different conditions (eg eyes closed, standing on a foam mat etc). This provides us with more information about the cause of your problem.

Vestibular Function Testing

Vestibular Function Testing is conducted at our Hornsby Rooms.

Our Physiotherapists have been trained to conduct these highly specialised tests.

We are able to test all 5 sensory organs in the labyrinth.

Testing includes:

  • video Head Impulse Test (as has been available at On-Balance since 2013) semicircular canal function, VOR gain
  • VEMPS (Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials) to assess otolith function (utricle and saccule).
  • Postural sway┬áis measured using BalanceRite ( a force platform and computer analysis) under certain conditions including Virtual Reality.

With our clinical examination these tests provide additional evidence so that the best approach for management can be implemented. We are able to tune our treatment approach to be specific in addressing your problem.

These tests provide us with more evidence to determine best approach for management of our patients.

We are able to tune our treatment approach to address the specific deficits.
